Villas Algarve - Luxury Accommodation, Armona Island

You can only get here by ferry or private boat. It is only 15 minutes across the Ria Formosa Lagoon and yet 40 years away from the chaos of modern life. There are over 12 kilometres of pristine beach, rolling sand dunes, excellent fishing and clamming (which is very very popular), beautiful sunrises & sunsets, a few portuguese 'corner shops' selling fresh produce, a couple of cafes/restaurants where the locals seem to sit all day and drink endless cups of coffee, that is - until it is too hot and the 'cervajas' BEER's are the order of the day! As the ferry docks at the little jetty you will see there is a little crowd of people waiting to board the ferry to go back to civilization in Olhao. But you're the lucky ones - this is where your holiday begins.

Accessibility

Suitable for the mobility impaired but please remember that you have to get on and off the boat to access the island. The villa is suitable for small children, but there is no stair gate and you will have to supervise your children.

Outside

Front garden with terrace, grassy lawn & mature trees, rear of villa with undercover terrace, grassy lawn, outdoor table and chairs and charcoal bbq. Views across Ria Formosa from large upstairs terrace/balcony. The villa backs onto a sandy inlet that at very high tides the water comes up to the back garden wall.

Coast/Beach

Armona Island is located within the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, it is 10 kilometres long and 1 kilometre wide -- it boasts long sandy, unspoilt beaches and lagoons.

Golf

Benamor, Quinta da Cima and Quinta Da Rima are the closest golf courses to Armona island. You would be able to get a taxi from Olhao to the course and arrange for collection when you have played your round.

Travel

It is not necessary to hire a car -- we will collect you at the airport and take you back at the end of your holiday -- this is included in your rental price in summer and we can arrange the airport transfer for you for other times of the year.

Distances

Olhao is the closest town -- easily reached from Armona by ferry. There is a large farmers market and a supermarket, banks, cafes, various shops, lots of nice restaurants and interesting places for the children to explore. The town also hosts regular events and carnivals - there is generally something interesting on !
